HUMBOLDT — Talk about ending with a bang.
Humboldt Middle School’s Cubs received touchdowns from five players Thursday, with a 43-0 thrashing of Bluestem in their final game of the 2025 season.
Mason Gunderman scored on runs of 9 and 31 yards, Waylon Johnson hauled in a 40-yard TD catch and Elija Irby scored on a 55-yard jaunt. Jase Russell scored on a 1-yard run and threw for two scores. Christian Matak scored on a 15-yard rush.
Russell, Mason Mueller and Irby all had successful 2-point conversions. Tate Thomas even kicked an extra point for good measure.
The Cub defense was downright stifling, limiting Bluestem to a pair of first downs.
Irby, Gundmerna and Ryker Wrestler led the team in tackles. Eli Siebert hauled in an interception.
The victory gives Humboldt a final record of 2-4-1 (2-3-1 in Tri-Valley League).
Coaches Matt Jennings and Wyatt Seufert praised their players’ “never-give-up attitude” throughout the season.
“Good luck to all the guys as they move into the seasons ahead,” Jennings said.
