EUREKA — It was a case of close, but no cigar, for Humboldt High’s girls Monday.
“The Lady Cubs played hard against Eureka, but ran out of gas in the fourth,” head coach Sherri Nelson said.
Humboldt dropped a 58-42 decision.
“We did some things really well, but Eureka just wanted it more tonight,” Nelson said.
Delaney Umholtz led the Lady Cubs with 12 points, followed by Lakota Wilson with 11. Morgan Morris, Makaylah McCall and Anna Whitcomb chipped in with four points apiece. Tilar Wells, Kayle Riebel and Megan Hudlin each had two. Madison Keller scored one.
“We are playing good basketball,” Nelson said. “We just need to cut out the silly mistakes to win these games.”
Humboldt wraps up the regular season tonight at home against Cherryvale.
The Class 3A substate playoffs begin next week.
