The Humboldt Middle School football team fell to Chanute 46-6 while hosting the Comets Thursday.
Chanute jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. Humboldt reached the end zone for the first and only time of the evening in the second quarter with a 69-yd touchdown pass from quarterback Tate Thomas to tight end Elijah Irby.
“The offense was led by Elijah Irby, Tate Thomas, Waylon Johnson and Mason Gunderman. Each of them fought for some very tough yards throughout the game,” Humboldt coach Matt Jennings said.
Defensively, Humboldt had some strong performances with a sack by Jase Russell and tackles for loss by Irby, Johnson, and Gunderman.
The Cubs return to the gridiron next Thursday when they travel to Eureka to take on the Tornados. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
