PLEASANTON — Humboldt was able to handle its business in the opening round of the Pleasanton Tournament on Tuesday night with lop-sided wins over Altoona-Midway in both boys and girls action.

Both Cubs squads are top seeds in the tournament and they played the way a top-seed should against over-matched Altoona-Midway squads.

The girls beat the Jets, 64-13 and the boys were even more dominant en route to a 71-8 victory.

The Cub boys were led by Rayce Hoepker with 24 points, but they saw contributions up and down the lineup with 11 of 12 players scoring.

Sophomore Bo Bigelow added 12 points while Tucker Hurst also had double figures with 10 points.

The Cubs came up with 22 steals in the game and once again 11 of the 12 Cubs who played had a steal.

Humboldt’s boys will play Oswego in the second round on Thursday.

Humboldt’s girls will play Heritage Christian on Thursday.
