HUMBOLDT — With the final turns on the dirt track and big money prizes, drivers came out for the 2010 Humboldt Speedway Fall Brawl over the weekend.
Friday night was the qualifying rounds for positions in the divisional A-main feature races on Saturday. The top 10 automatically advanced to Saturday’s A-main.
In the pure stock divison Friday, David Matlock and Jeremy Willard battled the whole feature. Matlock got the win with Williard in second.
Shane Ballew, Laura Ramey, Darryl Aiello, Stetson Deets, Mike Churning, Mark McDaniel, Travis Brew and Floyd Taggart rounded out the top 10.
Jerry Wagner caught frontrunner Tyler James midway through the factory stock race Friday. Wagner got the win with James in the runner-up spot.
Rounding out the top 10 in the factory stock division were Blake Davis, Derek Yocham, Brandon Tindle, Ed Mueller, Doug Scism, Tim Phillips, Derrek Wilson and Dustin Marvin.
Ron Bolin Jr. won the B-Mod race Friday followed by Jay Lamons Jr. Tim VanGotten was third followed by Jon Yeoman, Terry Bruner, Scott Collins, Gregg Piotrowski, Steven Trester, Mike Letterman and Nathan Ellison.
On Saturday, there were several new cars on hand to run in a last-chance qualifer. Prize money up for grabs included $1,500 in the modified division, $1,000-to-win each in the factory and B-Mod classes and $400 for pure stock.
Just like Friday night, David Matlock and Jeremy Willard went door-to-door in the pure stock feature.
Williard spun out trying pass Matock on the final lap and Matlock took the checkered flag. Shane Ballew finished second followed by Laura Ramey, Toby Elbe and Stetson Deets in the top five.
Derrek Wilson drove up through the pack to take the lead on lap nine and went on to win the factory stock feature. Blake Davis was runner up followed by Morris Sutton, Tyler James and Jerry Wagner.
Next on the track were the B-Mods. Tim VanGotten, Jay Lamons, and Ron Bolin battled for the lead. Around lap 12, Bolin and Lamons came together sending Lamons for a wild ride off the top of turn four bringing out the caution.
On the restart it was VanGotten leading to the finish and collecting prize money. Jon Yeoman spun as the pack came off turn four, leaving Terry Bruner in second. Steven Trester finished in the third spot and Lamons was able to pilot his car back up to the fourth position with Jerry Brown rounding out the top five.
Twenty of the 30 modified cars made it to the feature race.
Johnny Bone Jr took the lead and stayed out front for the 30-lap race.
Terry Beckham ran a strong second followed by Dustin Boney. Justin Folk was fourth and Johnny Fennewald took fifth.
This Saturday, Humboldt gets its Go Kart racing back on the track.
