The Humboldt volleyball team closed out the 2017 regular season on Tuesday with a split in their road trip to Fredonia, falling to the Lady Yellowjackets and beating Leon-Bluestem.
“I thought we played well tonight,” head coach Terry Meadows said. “We were able to pass well which led to some nice kills. Our serving continued to get more aggressive which is a good sign.”
The Lady Cubs are now 19-14 on the year.
Humboldt started off with the Lady Lions and dispatched them without too much trouble, winning in straight sets (25-20, 25-17).
Aricah McCall led the way with six kills with Lizzie Myers and Madison Gean each chipping in four. Myers had a team-high four aces while McCall had two.
McCall was also active at the net defensively, putting down a co-team-high two blocks along with Myers. Four different Lady Cubs recorded two digs.
Humboldt then took on Fredonia and came within just a couple of points of another 2-0 win but ended up falling in three sets, 1-2  (23-25, 25-20, 16-25).
Sydney Houk had a strong match, recording 12 kills, a block, an ace and 10 digs making her one of two Lady Cubs to record a double-double. Rylan Wilhite was the second Lady Cub to do so, recording 14 assists and 11 digs.
Offensively, McCall had six kills while Myers had five kills. Gean had a team-high three aces while Alayna Johnson and McCall had two aces.
McCall also had 13 digs.
The Lady Cubs will compete at the 3A Sub-State tournament at Wellsville on Friday. They are the two seed and will take on Central Heights at 2 p.m.
