EUREKA — Humboldt High’s track teams competed at Thursday’s Eureka High Invitational.
Tanner McNutt won the 400-meter dash in 53.27 seconds. He had a personal-best leap of 19 feet, 6 inches to place second in the long jump.
Jarred Barr ran the 3200-meter run in 11 minutes, 46 seconds for third. Jud Hawley was fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 21.5 seconds.
Humboldt girls’ 4×800-meter relay team of Michaela Bartlett, Whitney Strack, Kolbyn Allen and Raquel Hill was fifth in 12.59.
“Our girls’ 4×800 team is making progress and working to drop at least a minute off their time,” said Eric Carlson, Humboldt track coach. “It is a new event for two of the girls and they are still learning how to run the 800.”
Carlson said Barr ran better this week. He said Barr pushed himself at the start of the race but still got boxed in.
“Jarred ran his second mile faster than his first and had a great kick at the end,” Carlson said.
Hawley has improved phases of the 110-meter hurdle race despite having less-than-ideal practice facilities, Carlson said.
McNutt ran the 100-meter dash in 11.88 seconds and cleared 5’8” in the high jump.
“As the season progresses I look for him to continue running and jumping better,” Carlson said.
The Cubs and Lady Cubs go to the Yates Center High Invitational Tuesday.
