Humboldt, Yates Center head to Sedan Class 2A substate

Humboldt High’s Cubs and Lady Cubs drew tough opponents for next week’s 2011 Kansas Class 2A Substate Basketball Tournament hosted by Sedan High School.
They both are the No. 8 seeds in their division putting them up against top-seeded Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan’s boys (17-1) and the Oxford High girls (16-3).
 The Cubs travel to Colgan Monday for a 7 o’clock game. The Lady Cubs go to Oxford for a 6 p.m. game Tuesday.
Yates Center High’s Wildcat boys (14-5) are seeded fourth and host No. 5 West Elk (9-10) at 7 p.m. Monday. The winner of that game plays the winner of the Humboldt-Colgan contest in the semifinals Thursday.
 Yates Center’s girls (5-14) are seeded seventh and play at Oswego, No. 2 at 13-6, at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner of that contest plays in the semifinals Friday against the winner of No. 3 Pittsburg-Colgan (10-9) against No. 6 Sedan (6-14).
West Elk’s girls (8-12) were seeded No. 4 and host No. 5 Central of Burden (6-13) on Tuesday. The winner plays the Oxford-Humboldt winner on Friday.
On the other side of the boys’ bracket, No. 2 Oswego (17-2) hosts No. 7 Central-Burden (7-11) and No. 3 Sedan (15-4) hosts No. 6 Oxford (8-12) in Monday games. The winners play in a semifinal Thursday.
The championship games are at 6 p.m., girls, and 7:30 p.m., boys, Saturday at Sedan High School.
For substate tournament games, admission prices are set by Kansas State High School Activities Association. No school or league passes are honored at home or at Sedan High School, hosting the semifinals and finals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Admission prices for first-round games are $5 for adults and $4 for children (K-12). Prekindergarten age children are admitted free.
For semifinals and championship games at Sedan, admission prices are $6 for adults and $5 for children (K-12).
