IMS volleyball hope for upswing to end season

The Iola Mustangs hope to go out with a bang when they host their final home game Thursday and at this weekend's Pioneer League tournament.

The Iola Middle School eighth-grade A-team hopes to end their season on a high note at Thursday’s home finale. The league tournament then awaits Saturday in Burlington.

The Mustangs fell Monday to Santa Fe Trail in three sets, 25-10, 25-17 and 25-10.

Cora Boren shined, trailing Iola’s leader in aces — Hilary Gean — by one while putting up an astounding 25 good passes. Leanna Flory had 12 strong passes, followed by Kiera Goranson with six, then Ember Friend and Gean with five each.

The B-Team fell, 25-13, 25-9 and 25-16. Willow Cremmer ended the evening by leading both squads in aces with five, followed by Helena Morrison with two and Brynna Jelinek with one. 

Morrison also had a team-leading seven great passes, followed by London Hutton with six and Cremmer with five.
