Iola junior varsity tennis competed at Parsons on Saturday in their second-to-last meet of the season.
On the whole, the Fillies struggled except for freshman number two singles player Miah Shelby who ended up fourth with a 2-2 record.
Shelby opened the day with a 6-2 loss to Fort Scotts Jenny Heckman.
She then went on to beat Parsons Alix Webb 6-4 and Chanute Morgan Babcock 6-0.
Those two wins earned Shelby at shot at third place. She came close but ended up falling 6-5 in a 7-5 tiebreaker against Pittsburgs Sophie Shope to end up in fourth.
Number one singles player Annika Hobbs went 0-3 falling 6-2 to Fort Scott, 6-2 to Parsons and 6-2 to Chanute.
The number one doubles team of Allie Fager and Claudia Castellanos opened up with a 6-1 loss to Fort Scott followed by a 6-3 loss to Parsons and a 6-1 loss to Chanute.
Lastly, the number two double team of Jessica Tidd and Yurtizi Saaverdra started off with a 6-1 loss to Fort Scott. They then lost 6-2 to Parsons and 6-1 to Chanute.
The final junior varsity meet is scheduled for Monday in Chanute. The varsity Fillies will compete in Pittsburg on Thursday.
