The Iola Middle School girls basketball team hosted the Pony Stampede tournament Saturday, which featured Royster, Independence and Pittsburg.
In the first round for the A teams, Iola lost to Pitt, 39-10. Rebecca Sprague led the Ponies with seven points while adding five rebounds. Lauryn Holloway recorded a team-high eight rebounds.
In the third-place game, Iola lost to Independence, 19-12.
Jenna Miller recorded eight points and nine boards.
“We played much better today,” said coach Marty Taylor. “Hopefully we can keep it going through the break and into the second half of the season.”
Royster defeated Pittsburg, 58-36, in the championship.
In the first round for the B teams, Iola lost to Pitt, 11-3.
Zareona Pulley had two points.
In the third-place game, the Ponies lost 32-6 to Royster.
Independence defeated Pitt, 21-6, in the championship.
