The Iola Mustangs hope to end their regular season on a high note Tuesday, when they host Pioneer League rivals Prairie View and Osawatomie.
“We played well against Paola, and the girls came out on fire against Prairie View, which was great to see,” Iola coach Lauren Moots said. “A lot of things we’ve been working on are coming together and it’s really exciting to see.”
The Prairie View Buffalos may be a welcome sight. Iola recently snapped a six-game losing streak while sweeping Prairie View Saturday 25-13, 25-17 at a volleyball tournament in Garnett over the weekend. They failed to exit pool play with losses via sweep to Paola and Anderson County.
“They’re playing well as a team. There is a lot of energy, especially when they’re on fire,” Moots said. “We have to maintain that. We can’t wait until we’re a couple of points in. We have no time to wait.”
Following this weekend’s action, the Mustangs have a 6-20 record and are 1-8 in Pioneer League play.
They could be 3-8 by the time Tuesday’s triangular ends. Iola had success against Prairie View and Osawatomie during a triangular late last month.
Moots believes the Mustangs need all the success they can get to build a bit of momentum ahead of the upcoming regional tournament.
“Even if it’s late in the season, I’m happy to see progress going into regionals,” Moots said. “This is our last prep before we head into regionals. We’re working on a lot, we’ve seen a lot come together over the weekend, so let’s put on a show Tuesday.”
First serve is at 4 p.m.
