After playing as the giant killer these past two weeks while knocking off nationally ranked teams, the Allen Community College Red Devils met their match in a 1-0, 10-0 loss to the nationally ranked Johnson County Community College Cavaliers.
The Red Devils could not capitalize on a complete-game, seven strikeout performance by sophomore pitcher Camrynn Yardley, whose only allowed run in the fifth inning proved the difference in the opener.
“Game two, it’s hard to defend home runs, but in game one we competed well,” Allen coach Nicole Peters said. “We just have to come out on Thursday and take two (against Coffey County). We’re definitely peaking at the right time, we just have to string some things together to end on a high note.”
Sophomore shortstop Bailee Campbell broke up a no-hitter, but that’s all the offense Allen could muster.
Allen suffered a similar scenario in the finale with sophomore catcher Makayla Hirschmann registering the Red Devils’ only hit.
With the losses, Allen falls to 20-25 overall and 8-12 in the Jayhawk Conference, which keeps them seventh in the conference standings. The Red Devils could improve their standings, and potential seeding at the upcoming regional tournament, with a pair of wins against Coffeyville, who will be in town for a Thursday doubleheader.
First pitches for both games are 2 and 4 p.m.
