OSAGE CITY — The Humboldt Lady Cubs look to quickly regroup for their regular season finale against Osawatomie after falling in both contests against the Osage City Indians Monday, 5-2 and 3-1.

After capturing the Tri-Valley League title late last month, the Lady Cubs are in a slide. Monday’s sweep marked their third consecutive loss. Offensive inefficiency plagued Humboldt throughout both contests as the Lady Cubs got runners on base but failed to string together enough hits to bring their runners home.

Trailing by four runs after the opening frame, the Lady Cubs got on the scoreboard with a third-inning RBI single from junior catcher Leah Caram. A grounder by junior outfielder Kamry De La Torre in the sixth inning again cut the Indians’ lead to three runs, but that was as close as Humboldt would get.

Junior pitcher Jo Ellison took the loss with a pair of strikeouts over six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and five walks. Carman and junior outfielder Carlie Weiler each found success in 2 of 3 at-bats.

In the nightcap, freshman Jadey Ellis tallied a pair of strikeouts while holding the Indians to three runs on seven hits and a walk.

Humboldt’s lack of run production ultimately made the difference. Senior second baseman Skyler Hottenstein, who had a team-leading two hits, accounted for Humboldt’s only run after reaching home on a wild pitch. De La Torre and senior shortstop Laney Hull had Humboldt’s other two hits.

Humboldt’s stands at 16-8 overall. First pitch for Friday’s game against Osawatomie is at 4 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. first pitch scheduled for the nightcap.
