Humboldt Cubs and Lady Cubs cross country runners continue improving their times in anticipation of a postseason run to the state meet.

Although multiple high school runners failed to make the medal podium Tuesday, they did see a marked improvement since their debut last month in Anderson County. Freshman Aspen Wimsett showed her early potential after barely missed the medal podium while clearing the course in 23:25 for 23rd place. Senior Tori Melendez was not far off Wimsett’s pace after finishing 42nd in 24:56, followed by fellow senior Teghen Jaro at 46th in 25:39 . Senior Mallory Sinclair took 53rd in 27:47, followed by senior Josey Ellis in 61st place (30:34) and junior Jo Ellison took 62nd in 32:08.

For the Humboldt men, junior Jack Works nearly had a sub-20-minute finish after clearing the course in 20:20 and sophomore Carter Collins finished 70th in 22:34.

In JV action, freshman Kara Culbertson took 12 after running a 29:17. Sophomore Willow LaCrone took 19th in 32:05; Alexa Ellis took 22nd in 36:12. In the middle school race, eighth-grader runner Deegan Megenity took 46th in 14:46 and eighth-grader Marcus Whitcomb took 67th in 16:35.
