Allen Community College softball traveled to Bartlesville, Okla. for a doubleheader with Oklahoma Wesleyan’s JV team on Tuesday evening.
The Lady Devils took the lead in the fifth in game 1 to earn the 5-4 victory, but couldn’t muster the same result in the second, losing 6-8.
ACC trailed 2-1 heading into the fifth inning when catcher Meg Kirk stepped up to the plate. She belted a double that scored two Lady Devil runs to take the 3-2 lead. Two batters later, Macie Cervantes singled a ground ball to short, scoring Kirk, and giving ACC a two-run cushion.
The Lady Devils added an insurance run in the top of the seventh with Cervantes picking up another RBI and bringing Kirk home once more.
Brooklyn Floyd pitched the first six innings and earned the win, allowing two earned runs and five hits. Jo-Elle Natividad received the save for her efforts in the final innings. The win was ACC’s first of the season.
The Lady Devils had another chance to capture a win in the second leg of Tuesday’s doubleheader. ACC led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the third after a four-run top half of the inning.
The Eagles replied with eight unanswered runs spanning over four innings. The Lady Devils got one back in the seventh, after an RBI from Maddi Thompson, but it wasn’t enough to complete the sweep.
