With regionals and sub-state drawing ever closer, area teams are frantically trying to catch up on games canceled by the wintry weather over the past month to improve their postseason standing. Here are some scores and stats of some area teams that the Register wasnt able to see in-person this week:
Humboldt
The Cubs traveled to Fredonia on Thursday and both boys and girls won big, 54-24 and 71-53.
The Cub boys (9-7) were led by senior Bo Bigelow who had 33 points followed by 14 for senior Tucker Hurst and 11 for senior Caleb Coronado who also had a double-double with 12 rebounds.
Junior Conor Haviland had eight rebounds.
Individual stats for the Lady Cubs (9-7) were unavailable.
The Cubs have just two games left in the regular season with Mondays game versus Neodesha and Thursdays game at Leon-Bluestem before sub-state brackets are released.
Were still battling for a first-round home game, boys head coach David Taylor said. We still need one or two more wins but whats more important is that we continue to keep playing better. Weve shown glimpses this year but now those glimpses are getting longer and thats what we need to continue to keep working toward.
Yates Center
The Wildcat boys knocked off Three Rivers League front-runner Northeast-Arma Tuesday night 65-53.
Senior Aaron King had a blistering 34 points followed by 13 for freshman Kendrick Jones and 12 for senior Hadley Splechter.
King also registered a double-double with 14 rebounds.
The Lady Wildcats also got a win, beating the Lady Vikings 67-43. Individual stats were unavailable.
The wins moved the Wildcat boys to 15-2 overall and the girls to 12-5.
Yates Center will wrap up its regular season on Friday at home versus Pleasanton.
Crest
The Lancers wrapped up a three-game week on Thursday with a split on the road at Jayhawk-Linn.
The Lancer boys (8-12) lost 52-43 while the girls (9-11) won 40-36.
Crests boys were led by senior Hayden Hermreck who had 27 and junior Zach Beckmon who had 12. Hermreck also recorded 13 rebounds for a double-double.
