Mustang golfers swing into action

INDEPENDENCE — Iola High’s Mustangs opened the 2010 golf season Thursday at the Independence High Invitational.
The tournament was a Southeast Kansas League designated tournament.
Coffeyville won the tournament with a four-man total of 332. Chanute was second had 342 followed by Pittsburg at 343, Pittsburg-Colgan at 349, Independence-A at 351, Fort Scott at 363, Labette County at 394 and Parsons at 401.
Iola finished ninth in the tournament with a team score of 419. The Mustangs were eighth among SEK teams.
Independence-B took 10th at 439 followed by Columbus at 441 and Giard at 501.
Kris Collins shot a 102 (50-52) to tie for 38th as Iola’s top performer of the tournament. Zach Crawford (51-52) and Doug Stewart (51-52) finished with 103s.
Jarrett Mosbrucker had a 111 (59-52) and Sam Shallah shot a 119 (63-56). Hayden Wolf had a 127 (68-59).
Chanute’s Mitch Hall won the tournament with a 79. Cameron Wiltse of Chanute and Andrew Joey of Pittsburg both shot 80s.
The Mustangs host an SEK designated tournament Tuesday at the Allen County Country Club. Golfers tee off at 3 p.m.
