FREDONIA — Iola’s top track and field finishes in the Fredonia Relays on Friday came from its relay teams.
Chase Regehr, Braden Plumlee, Kendall Jay and Nathan Sprague ran their best time of the season in the 4×800-meter relay. They took third-place with a time of 9 minutes, 1 second.
Regehr, Jay and Sprague joined forces again in the 4×400 relay, along with freshman Tayton Driskel. They also finished third with a season-best time of 3:44.
Iola coach Dana Daugharthy praised Jay’s performance.
“I thought Kendall really stood out for the boys,” Daugharthy said.
Driskel took the only individual medals for Iola on the boys’ side. He finished fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump with a personal best of 38 feet, 8.25 inches.
Ashleigh Nicholas earned a pair of sixth-place finishes on the girls’ side in the 300 hurdles and long jump.
“This was Asheigh’s first time placing in a varsity meet,” Daugharthy said. “I was really proud of her.”
