CHANUTE — Iola Middle School’s Pony golfers took sixth at Chanute’s Royster Middle School golf tournament Monday.
“We played our younger golfers Monday because of the seven-meet restrictions on middle school golfers,” said Dennis Nevin, IMS golf coach. “Our kids played very well. We had a great day for golf and the course was in good shape.”
Chanute won the team title with an 185 and Independence was second with a 197. Iola combined for a 237.
Wyatt Hines led Iola with a 53 while Trey Wilson shot a 56. Colten Storrer had a 61 and Andrew Waldman shot a 63.
In the girls’ division, Iola’s Katie Shields carded a 65, taking fifth place. Jessica Adams shot a 72 for 10th place.
“I’m very proud of our golfers. They handled themselves very well. For some of them, it was their first real competition,” Nevin said.
On Thursday, the IMS golf team plays at Parsons at the Katy Golf Course.
