GARNETT — Iola Middle School’s Pony girls played a lot of volleyball Tuesday at Anderson County Junior High.
The eighth-grade A-team and B-team matches plus the seventh-grade A-team match were all best 3-of-5.
In the eighth-grade A-team match, Anderson County beat Iola 25-21, 25-21, 25-17. IMS eighth-grade coach Terri Carlin said the Ponies couldn’t put a run together to get on top.
“I thought we were the better team but just didn’t play like it. We did some good things. We had too many mistakes,” Carlin said.
Emma Piazza had four ace serves and four set assists and Kyra Moore had two aces and five assists. Jo Lohman served three aces while Morgan Wilson and Addie Haar each had two aces. Kim Kaufman and Chelsea Lea had an ace serve. Emery Driskell put down three kills.
The B-team match went four games before Anderson County won 22-25, 25-21, 25-8, 28-25. Shelby Reno had a great night, Carlin said, with three ace serves, three kills and one assist.
“I was pleased with the passing of Brianne Jett and Ashley Cary,” Carlin said.
Lea had five ace serves and two kills. Trilby Bannister had two ace serves and two kills. Ashley Campbell and Tianna Beasley each had three ace serves. Elisa Murrow, Shelby Smith and Ashley Cary each had two aces. Serving one ace each were Caressa Lowell, Haar and Katie Shields.
Iola’s seventh-grade A-team lost 25-17, 25-17, 25-17. IMS seventh-grade coach Muffy Fehr said Ashlie Shields and Elise Wolf did a nice job setting the ball.
“We struggled with consistency. We need to get more back row passes where they need to go,” Fehr said.
The Ponies won the B-team mach 24-26, 25-19, 25-18. Blaze Hobbs and Courtney Richie led the team in the rally. Cassie Delich, Chyanne Vaughn, Klair Vogel, Richie and Hobbs had good serving nights.
Iola also won the seventh-grade C-team match 25-23, 25-7. Bryna Hollins and Bayleigh Weide dominated the second game with their serving. Hollins had 11 points and Weide had four ace serves.
Iola hosts Independence Thursday. The matches were originally scheduled to be played at Independence but had to be switched.
