Red Devil players receive honors

Neither Allen Community College team had the spring season it wanted. But there were individual highlights throughout the season for both the ACC baseball and softball teams.
Nine Allen Community College athletes received postseason honors in Jayhawk Conference and Region VI baseball and softball.
The Red Devil baseball team went 22-35 overall and 13-23 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play. The Red Devil softball team finished at 30-28 overall and 10-16 in Jayhawk East action.
ACC third baseman Caleb Wilburn capped his sophomore season with postseason honors. Wilburn was named to the 2012 Region VI, Division I Baseball All-Region first team at third base. He also was named to the All-Jayhawk Eastern Division first team.
Wilburn led the Red Devils with 20 doubles and five home runs. He had 66 hits on the season with a .395 batting average. He tallied 31 RBI and scored 36 runs.
Wilburn was 9 of 11 on stolen base attempts. He had .940 fielding percentage.
Sophomore pitcher Zak Mickens, sophomore shortstop Travis Stafford and freshman outfielder Tim Lewis received All-Jayhawk East second-team honors.
Mickens, who is from Berryton, went 6-4 on the mound. He pitched eight complete games in his 12 starts. He had a 3.45 Earned Run Average. Mickens struck out 58 batters, walked 20 and allowed 93 hits.
Stafford led the Red Devils at the plate, hitting .415 and driving in 40 runs. He had 16 doubles and two home runs, scored 31 runs and stole seven bases. Stafford had a .894 fielding average.
Lewis was a .384 hitter for the Devils with 23 RBIs, 13 doubles and scoring 38 runs. He swiped six bases and had a .921 fielding average.
Stafford is from Claremore, Okla. and Lewis is from Lawrence. Mickens was named 1012 ACC Male Athlete of the Year.

THREE ACC PLAYERS were named to the 2012 NJCAA Division II, District E All-District first team. Region VI has two Division II districts for playoffs.
Sophomore pitcher Alex Hill of Iola earned first-team district honors. Sophomore Ashley Ribelin of Mayetta and freshman Maecy Charleston of Manhattan received first-team honors as outfielders.
Freshman pitcher Audra Nelson of Holton was named to District E second team.
Freshman Keelyn Bonar of Rose Hill earned 2012 All-Jayhawk Conference honorable mention as a utility player for Allen. She pitched and played first base.
Bonar led the Red Devil softball team with a .442 batting average, 38 RBIs and 17 doubles. She hit three home runs and scored 20 runs.
Bonar was 15-14 pitching with a 2.903 ERA. She recorded 147 strikeouts.
Hill ended her two-year stint in Red and Black with a 14-11 record in the circle. She had a 2.576 ERA and struck out 127 batters and issued 43 walks.
Hill was the second leading hitter on the team at .354 with 62 hits. She drove in 17 runs and scored 36 runs, tying for top team honors with Charleston.
Charleston produced seven home runs for Allen hitting .328. She was second on the team with 30 RBIs and had 12 doubles.
Ribelin hit .343 with 13 doubles and two home runs among her 61 hits. She drove in 26 runs and scored 34.
Nelson was 1-3 as a pitcher with a 2.076 ERA. She struck out 56 batters. Nelson was a .250 hitter.
