KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Allen County Community College’s Red Devils jumpstarted their Jayhawk Eastern Division schedule with a road win Wednesday.
The Red Devils defeated host Kansas City, Kan., Community College’s Blue Devils 20-25, 27-25, 25-23, 15-25, 16-14. It wasn’t easy but the Red Devils got it done.
“The night was filled with so much emotion with highs and lows on major point rallies for both teams,” said Jessica Peters, ACCC head coach.
Allen County was down 14-11 in the final set. The Red Devils held as Sabrina Stanley came to the service line. Peters said Alli Jenike, Randi Billings and Haley Mertens had four solid blocks in a row.
Allen County scored the final five points to win the match.
Jenicke had 16 kills, a solo block and three assisted blocks. Jordyne Seichepine put down 10 kills and had one solo and one assisted block at the net.
Billings put up two solo blocks and four assisted blocks. Mertens and Makhala Giardina each had nine kills.
Stanley had 18 set assists and Jacqi Ortiz had 19 assists. Nicole Reed had two service aces.
Reed, Jenicke and Ortiz each had 23 digs. Stanley and Giardina had 15 digs each.
The Red Devils are 1-0 in Jayhawk East play and 3-3 overall. They go to Parsons next Wednesday to play Labette Community College.
