LE ROY — For as good as Southern Coffey County High’s boys were offensively at the start Thursday, the Titans were even better on the defensive end.

The Titans wrapped up the regular season on a powerful note, blasting visiting Lebo High 57-24.

On the girls’ side, Lebo stormed back from an eight-point, fourth-quarter deficit to stun Southern Coffey County, 36-33.

Their win gives SCC’s boys a nice feather in their caps as the Titans enter the Class 1A Regional playoffs at home Tuesday against Crest.

There was little doubt from the outset.

Seniors Jett Harvey and Dawson Leimkuhler each connected twice from 3-point range in the first quarter as part of a 19-3 run, negating (and frequently attacking) Lebo’s pressure defense.

The Titans’ lead ballooned to 23-6 by the early moments of the second quarter. Jonathan Borntreger’s steal and layup midway through the period pushed the advantage to 32-13.

The Wolves ended the half with four straight points to get within 15.

That was when the Titans tightened the screws defensively, allowing only a single field goal in both the the third and fourth quarters.

A pair of Kolgan Ohl free throws with 4½ minutes left in the game pushed the lead to 51-21, triggering a running clock the rest of the way.

The Titans ended the game in much the same manner in which they started, on an 18-3 run.

Harvey, Leimkuhler and Ohl, among the outgoing seniors honored in a pregame ceremony, led the way offensively.

Harvey wound up with a game-high 19, including four 3-pointers. Leimkuhler was just behind with 18 points, while Ohl wound up with 12.

Sophomore Devan McEwen, who provided all of Lebo’s offense in the first quarter on a pair of treys, wound up with nine points, all in the first half.

LEBO’S DEMI Schrader and Maddie Smith were the late heroines, Schrader put in a short jumper with 22 seconds — part of a game-clinching 12-1 run — to give the Wolves a 34-33 lead. Southern Coffey County’s Reed Szambecki was long on her baseline jumper with under 10 seconds remaining. Smith corralled the rebound for Lebo and hit a pair of free throws.

The Lady Titans were unable to get off a 3-point attempt as time expired.

They spoiled what had been a sterling defensive effort for the Lady Titans.
