The SEK Thunder, a girls’ fastpitch softball traveling team, won the ASA Class C KC Metro Championship tournament last weekend.
The SEK Thunder has girls from southeast Kansas and is coached by Doug Ames and Tony Hawkins.
The Thunder opened play Saturday at the tournament held at Hidden Valley Complex at Blue Springs, Mo. On Sunday the SEK Thunder beat the Outlaws 5-4 to move into the championship game.
Playing in excessive heat and humidity, the SEK Thunder beat Gardner Blue Ice for the division title.
“This is a great bunch of young ladies with a lot of heart,” Ames said. “The girls practice hard and that hard work paid off this past weekend.”
