High School Track and Field: Yates Center Wildcats
For the second weekend in a row, the Yates Center track and field team split in two sending its best athlete to compete at one meet and the rest of the team to compete in another.
The Wildcat team headed to Fredonia for the Fredonia Relays while junior Hadley Splechter went to test his mettle against the regions top talent at the KU Relays in Lawrence.
Splechter competed only in the 3200. Running against athletes from across Kansas, Missouri and Texas, Splechter finished second behind a senior from Webb City, Mo.
However, the juniors time of 9:24.26 was the fastest recorded in the state of Kansas so far this season.
MEANWHILE, the Wildcat boys minus Splechter tied for fourth place with St. Marys Colgan at Fredonia.
The 4×800 team of Jordan Smith, Kobe Forsyth, Colin Bedell and Austin Moffet led the way for Yates Center finishing first with a time of nine minutes flat.
Individually, Forsyth finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.76, Bedell finished second in the 800 (2:12) and fifth in the 1600 (5:04), Smith finished fourth in the 800 (2:13) and sixth in the 1600 (5:07).
The 4×100 relay team of Quin Lowder, John Righini, Kayle Smith and Thayne Smith finished third with a time of 46.76.
Individually, Lowder finished fourth in the 400 (55.44) Smith finished fourth in the 100 (11.60) and Righini finished fifth in the 200 (24.90).
Up next, the Wildcats will compete at Neodesha on Thursday.
