Titan boys hold off St. Paul

WAVERLY — Southern Coffey County High’s boys were successful in their first step toward a possible state playoff bid Thursday.
Now all the Titans have to do to make it to the Class 1A-I state tournament is topple one of the best teams in eastern Kansas.
Southern Coffey County defeated St. Paul, 46-39, in their substate semifinal Thursday at Waverly High School.
Now, the Titans square off against unbeaten Marais des Cygnes Valley, which improved to 20-0 with a 60-42 win over host Waverly.
The Trojans have defeated SCC twice this season, 48-34 in a preseason tournament game in Yates Center in December, and in a 52-12 romp in early January.
In girls action, Southern Coffey County’s season ended Friday with a 54-27 loss to top seed Marais des Cygnes Valley in their substate semifinal.
The defeat ends SCC’s season with a 7-14 record.
