PITTSBURG — Crest High’s Lancers and the Oswego High Indian girls were selected as the 2011-2012 basketball season preseason favorites by Three Rivers League coaches Monday. The TRL coaches’ preseason polls were announced following the annual media luncheon sponsored by The Ticket — 99.1 ESPN Radio in Pittsburg.
The Lancers had seven of the nine first-place votes in the poll. Returning to the TRL after a two-year stint in the Pioneer League, Jayhawk-Linn High’s Jayhawks of Mound City took the No. 2 spot. Northeast’s boys were third followed by St. Paul and Oswego.
Uniontown High’s Eagles and Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats were picked to finish sixth and seventh, respectively, in the boys’ division. Chetopa filled the No. 8 spot followed by Pleasanton and Altoona-Midway.
Oswego and Jayhawk-Linn each got five first-place votes in the girls’ voting. The Indian girls earned more points through top-three votes to become the preseason favorite. The Jayhawks were second with St. Paul in third.
Uniontown High’s Eagle girls are picked to finish fourth and Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat girls are slotted at No. 7. In between are Pleasanton at five and Northeast at six.
Crest High’s Lady Lancers are at No. 9 with Chetopa in front at eight and Altoona-Midway at 10.
