HUMBOLDT — One week before Humboldt Speedway’s annual Dwaine Whitworth Memorial Special, Johnny Bone Jr. and Trevor Hunt proved to be tough to beat in their respective divisions at the Speedway.
Last Friday’s USRA modifieds feature race had multiple lead changes. Bone made sure he was the leader on the final lap and won it.
Jess Folk Jr. ran second to Bone on Friday night followed by John Allen. Brian Bolin turned in a fourth-place run and Tanner Mullens was fifth.
Hunt made it three out of four in the B-Mod feature race. That meant Hunt’s car had to go through a technical teardown of the engine, which it passed.
Jeremy Chambers pushed Hunt but settled for second. Curt Drake finished in third with Jack Simmons in fourth and Tim Van Gotten in fifth place.
The Speedway holds its regular show this Friday night. Then the Speedway revs up for a special show on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.
The Dwaine Whitworth Memorial Special features a head-to-head clash between USRA and NCRA modifieds. On Sunday the gates open at 4:30 p.m. and races begin at 7 p.m.
One of the most competitive divisions at Humboldt Speedway this season is the pure stock.
Derek Michael broke through to win last Friday’s pure stock feature after running consistently in the top of the field this season. He had a solid trip in the feature race and Tyler Kidwell was the runner-up. Levi Phillips was third followed by George Reimer and Ryan Smith.
Scott Stuart has become a regular in the Speedway’s winner’s circle this season. Stuart chalked up another win in the factory stock last Friday.
Ethan Lamons crossed the finish line in second place. Brandon Weide, Brandon Tindle and Chad Klauman rounded out the top five finishers.
Not all the action involved internal combustion. Kids’ night bike races were held at half time. Winners were: Michael Briggs in the 6-and-under division, Kaden Bosch in the 7 to 9’s, and Matthew Kay in the 9 to 12’s.
