With multiple regional meets scheduled in a little under two weeks, area coaches gave their junior varsity athletes one more evaluation in live competition at Monday’s Iola High School Junior Varsity Invitational.
Despite being one of the smaller schools competing, Marmaton Valley more than held its own. Junior Evva Sander took first in the 300-meter hurdles (54.56), fourth in the 100-meter dash (14.42) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (30.19).
Freshman Clara Ferguson took first in the shot put (32’ 8”) and the discus (76’ 4”).
The Wildcats nearly swept the boys’ throwing events after junior Dagan Barney won the shot put (38’ 6”) and the discus (122’) while junior Cooper Scharff took second in the javelin (131’ 11”).
