YCHS track season begins

LYNDON —  Yates Center High’s track athletes opened the 2011 season last Friday in the Lyndon High Invitational track meet.
Brae Adams started her senior season with a gold-medal performance in the girls’ discus. She won the event with a throw of 99 feet, 9 inches. Haley Bedell was fourth in the javelin at 76’2”.
In the high jump, Paige Steinforth cleared the bar at 4’6” for second place. Wildcat teammate Cherokee Shafer was third at 4’4”.
Mindi Holloway took the bronze medal in the 100-meter high hurdles in 19.68 seconds. She combined with Shafer, Steinforth and Macey Heger for fourth in the 4×100-meter relay in 59.58 seconds.
Steinforth placed fourth, 68 seconds, and Holloway was fifth, 69.84 seconds, in the 400-meter dash. Shafer took fifth in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 53 seconds.
For the YCHS boys, David VanHoose claimed the silver medal in the 200-meter dash in 23.8 seconds. He was third in the 100-meter dash in 11.59 seconds.
Sam Aguirre took fourth in the 400-meter dash in a personal-best time of 56.4 seconds. He was fifth in the 100-meter high hurdles in 18.6 seconds.
Yates Center’s athletes go to Eureka on Thursday.
