Mrs. Olga Saferite will open Olga’s Sportswear Shoppe at 16 S. Washington in the rooms formerly occupied by Gordon Insurance Agency. Her husband is owner of the Cue Club at 203 S. Washington.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Houston, former operators of The Place cafe east of Iola have agreed to take over caretaking and catering at the Allen County Country Club, club president H.E. Russell, Jr., announced today.

Charles L. Fussman has been appointed vice president of Monarch Cement in Humboldt, President Walter Wulf said today. Glen Shook will succeed Fussman as superintendent.

A new pipe organ, given by Thomas H. Bowlus as a memorial to his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. George Bowlus, Iola pioneers, will be installed in First Methodist Church next year when the church celebrates its 100th anniversary. The instrument will cost $21,000. Mr. George Bowlus was founder of Allen County Bank, which his son now heads.

George Chard received a gold trophy at the annual Rod and Custom Auto show at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City to recognize his hand-built roadster. Chard’s was the only right-hand drive roadster in the show, which included 70 cars. This is the fifth award Chard has won for showing his car. He also won two awards for drag racing.
