Over $500 in cash was stolen last night by skilled thieves who entered Dr. Leo Robinson’s office at 219 N. Jefferson, cracked the safe and pried open a filing cabinet.

Mr. and Mrs. L. Van De Mark and William “Bill” Barnes are the new owners of the J&D Market, Gas City, purchasing the business Feb. 1 from Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Kleir who have operated it for several years.

A new bridge will be built across Little Deer Creek on the county road three miles east and a half north of Carlyle. It will replace an old bridge which sits at an angle to the roadway at the foot of Bird Hill.

Iola’s beauty shops are closed today due to the operators and their assistants donating their services to the women in rest homes throughout the county as part of their observance of National Beauty Salon Week. Eula Griffith is chairman of the local organization.

Over 300 men and women attended the citywide Boy Scout Court of Honor in the junior high auditorium last night. Senior scouts John Conderman, Bill Middleton, Webster Golden and Jerry Ulrich, each illustrated one phase of Scout training, by relating a true story of a scout who saved the life of another boy.
