Mike and Missy Irwin are proud to announce the 70th wedding anniversary of their parents, Robert, Jr. (Bob) and Evva (Applegate) Irwin and invite friends to a dessert reception at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at the 110 Lounge and Event Center in Iola. The couple were married in a double-ring ceremony at the Carlyle Church on Oct. 30, 1955.
Evva is the daughter of the late J.L. and Frances Applegate of Carlyle, while Bob is the son of the late Robert, Sr. and Hazel Irwin of Iola.
Evva and Bob made their family home in Iola, after a honeymoon in the Ozarks and Bob’s Army service during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Denver and the couple made their first home post-honeymoon.
Evva was employed for many years at Southwestern Bell, H.L. Miller, Allen County/Iola State Bank, Duane’s Flowers, and the Iola Greenhouse while Bob retired after over three decades as a USPS mailman and then worked as a custodian at Jefferson Elementary School before retiring in his early 80s to join Evva in her earlier retirement.
Evva and Bob have two children: Michael Irwin (and wife Janet (Eisenbart)) of Greenfield, Mo., and Melissa (Missy) Irwin of Iola. The couple immensely enjoys their four grandchildren Stephanie, Justin, and Kayla (Mike/Janet) and Piper (Missy), along with their seven great-grandchildren: Madison, Charlotte, Lilliana, Haleigh, Justin Jr., Hunter, and Mackenzie.
The couple is blessed with many extended family members and friends, both near and far. Mike and Missy hope they can attend the anniversary reception, but if unable, the couple would appreciate cards mailed to their home at 813 Meadowbrook Rd. E. in Iola.
