Rumble strips in multiple locations will be installed this week on highways in four southeast Kansas counties, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The project began Monday and should be completed in March, conditions permitting.
The rumble strips will be milled onto 38.9 miles of roadway.
In Allen County, the work zone will be on U.S. 169 beginning at the Neosho County line north 1.7 miles. The next work zone will start 5 miles north of the Neosho County line and continue to 2.7 miles south of the U.S. 54 junction. The work zones will have a pilot car to guide travelers. Motorists are encouraged to add time to their travel schedule.
Work will continue on U.S. 169 into Neosho County. Additional rumble strip work will be done on U.S. 166 and U.S. 69 highways in Cherokee and Crawford counties.
RoadSafe Traffic Systems Inc., of Chicago, Illinois, is the primary contractor. The project’s cost is $121,654.60.
