Large crowds flocked to downtown Iola Saturday for Farm-City Days, with activities extending well into the evening, until a line of severe thunderstorms cut short the fun. At top from left, Marv the Mustang, Iola High School’s mascot, is greeted by a line of parade spectators; Allen Community College’s cheer team waves to the crowd as they march in the parade; Iola native and recording artist Skye Strickler gives a raucous performance as a part of the festivities. At middle, the Ottaway Amusements carnival stayed open until moments before the thunderstorms dumped an inch  of rain and snapped several power poles at about 7 p.m. Saturday. Below from left, gubernatorial candidate Ken Selzer greets the parade crowd; Martha Fitzmaurice demonstrates proper use of a spinning wheel and loom under a heritage arts tent; Masonic Lodge members Curtis Utley, left, and Sonny Northcutt ride a float in the parade.
