HUMBOLDT — Volunteers dished out oodles of noodles at the Chicken & Noodle Dinner Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Humboldt High School cafeteria, in support of the seniors’ After Prom party.
“We sponsor a party after prom is over that is drug- and alcohol-free to keep the kids safe and to entertain them, and so they can have a good time,” volunteer Christy Seufert said.
Emprise Bank sponsored the event by providing the food and the cook, Marsha Frederick, Humboldt school’s food service director. Frederick’s baking frenzy, which she said began the day before, resulted in seven types of cakes for diners to choose from.
“I think it is wonderful to raise money for the kids for after prom,” Frederick said.
Junior class students, along with Humboldt Pharmacy, sold tickets for $5 in advance and tickets sold for $6 at the door. The proceeds pay for the cost of students’ transportation and admittance into Sky Zone, Shawnee, shortly after the dance ends on April 1.
According to Corey Einecker, Sky Zone’s operations manager, Sky Zone is an indoor trampoline park.
“It is basically a bunch of interconnected trampolines on all of our courts that are walled in with trampolines so you can bounce off the walls,” Einecker said.
According to Seufert, the cost of the trip is around $3,000, and funds are raised through donations and candy sales in addition to the chicken dinner. She said because of the bank’s support all of the money raised from the chicken dinner sales go directly to fund the after prom excursion. Junior class students and parent volunteers pitched in on everything from washing dishes to plating Frederick’s cakes. Frederick said she felt like she had a “ton” of good help.
“The junior class does all this work to put the after prom on for the seniors,” Seufert said. “Kind of a thank you to them.”
The event, held every year, typically feeds around 300. This year 200 tickets sold in advance and the menu included chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, hot rolls, dessert, and drinks.
