MOUND CITY — Marmaton Valley High’s softball team had trouble getting its offense going against host Jayhawk-Linn High’s Jayhawks Thursday.
The Jayhawks beat the Wildcats 16-1 and 15-5 in two five-inning, run-rule games.
“We had a few girls hit tonight but we have to get the whole team hitting at the same time to be effective offensively,” said Brenda Mills, Wildcat head coach.
“Our pitchers did a nice job even though they walked too many batters. We didn’t play well defensively behind them.”
Maggie Meiwes and Hannah Endicott pitched for the Wildcats. They combined to issue 16 walks in the two games.
Offensively, Endicott doubled in the first game and Kailey Boyd had two bunt singles. Meiwes, Kayla McNutt, Kacie Shadden and Morgan Henry had a single apiece.
In the second game, Endicott and Meiwes had two base hits each. Boyd, Jamee McEndree and Michele Heskett had a single each.
