The 132nd annual Allen County Fair launched in grand (and stylish) fashion Tuesday with the 4-H Public Style Revue.
After the Friends of 4-H Dinners started the proceedings, 14 youngsters delighted the crowd by modeling outfits they either shopped for or made themselves.
Aspen Wimsett, a member of the Logan Pals 4-H Club, brought home the big award of the night, a traveling trophy for having been named overall champion in sewing and textile design. She also won the sewing and textile design revue for intermediate 4-H members.
Karly Kramer, a Square B 4-H’er, was another two-time winner, being named the top senior in the sewing and textile design revue. She also received a rotary cutter from the Coy Allen family for being the top textile design revue entrant for ages 13-19.

Elijah Mentzer, of City Slickers 4-H, also brought home a pair of awards, as the top intermediate male in the Shopping in Style category, and the winner of a pair of scissors from the Coy Allen family for sewing and textile design (7-12 years).
Other top finishers:
Rohan Springer was named champion male in the Shopping in Style senior division. Case Mentzer was the champion Shopping in Style junior male.
Teghan Jaro was the top senior Shopping in Style female competitor. Tessa Francis topped all comers in the Shopping in Style intermediate class.
Aspen Wimsett took home the intermediate championship in sewing and textile design. Harper Gabbert was the top junior entrant.
HUNTER Nickell, the livestock management agent for Southwind Extension District, presented a pair of 4-H partner awards at the onset of the style revue, celebrating the City of Iola and USD 257’s partnership with the 4-H Council as they work in league to build a new digital sign at Iola’s Riverside Park.
The sign will serve all three entities, allowing each to post notices to passersby of upcoming events.
Coincidentally, the setting shifts to the Allen County Fairgrounds at Riverside Park for the balance of the week.
Wednesday’s activities included the 4-H horse show and a 4-H Cloverbud visit, before the action hits high gear Thursday through Sunday.
