Iolan Braiden Carroll Williams faces a number of charges following a police pursuit that started in Iola shortly after midnight Thursday morning and wound up in Gardner, more than 75 miles away.

The incident began after residents along North Jefferson Avenue and Garfield Street alerted officers to complaints of a reckless driver.

An Iola officer spotted the vehicle and a pursuit began when the suspect declined to stop.

The chase made it to U.S. 169, where officers pursued northbound, until terminating the chase just south of Garnett. Officers said the suspect’s vehicle exceeded 100 mph during the pursuit.

Garnett police officers picked up the chase from there, as the suspect led officers to K-31 Highway and into Franklin County.

The pursuit continued into Gardner where officers were able to disable the vehicle with a tire flattening device.

The suspect fled on foot into a Walmart store, where officers were able to apprehend him.

Williams, 20, faces charges of felony fleeing and eluding and engaging in reckless driving in Allen County, on top of charges he faces in the other counties.

Williams is being held in the Franklin County Jail.
