The walls are going up for the new visitor’s center at LeHigh Portland State Park.
David Ball, director of trails for the park, also said the gravel pads and hookups have been installed at one of the two RV campgrounds planned for the park and a bathhouse is nearing completion.
“Now that the rain has stopped, things are moving pretty quickly,” Ball said last week.
Aerial photos by Bob Hawk, Iola, gave a bird’s eye view of the work.
Earlier reports estimate the visitors center will be almost 6,000 square feet — one of the largest in the state park system, and includes a community room capable of holding crowds of up to 300, as well as meeting rooms, kitchen and restroom facilities, and a deck that promises to offer a spectacular view of the lake.
Vogts Construction, Newton, is leading the project.
The current campground is expected to include 55 hookups complete with 6-inch deep concrete pads. A second campground will have 26 pads.
