One person in custody after fatal shooting

A man is in custody after a fatal shooting Sunday afternoon in Humboldt. Officers have not identified either the victim or the suspect.

Law enforcement officers converge upon the 1000 block of Sycamore Street in Humboldt Sunday to investigate a shooting. The victim succumbed to his injuries, while the suspected shooter was arrested later Sunday south of Moran.

HUMBOLDT — A suspect is in custody after a fatal shooting in Humboldt Sunday afternoon.

The shooting was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Sycamore Street.

There, responding officers found a male victim with a single gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken via ambulance to Allen County Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect, whose name also has not been released, fled the area before officers arrived.

He and two others were arrested by the Kansas Highway Patrol, shortly before 9 p.m. south of Moran on U.S. 59. All three were taken into custody without incident.

Law enforcement continued to interview witnesses through the evening hours.

Personnel from the Humboldt Police Department, Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Kansas Highway Patrol and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks were on the scene.

Kansas Bureau of Investigation personnel were requested to investigate the incident.
