RILEY — The Yates Center golf team finished its season on a rainy Monday at Riley’s Leonardville Golf Course in the Sand-Greens State Meet.
Freshman Reece Solander was the team’s top finisher and earned a fifth-place medal by shooting a 83.
“Reece played well all year, medaling in every tournament,” Yates Center coach Kevin Barnes said.
The Wildcats’ two seniors Remi Wagner and Jon Barnes each had top-20 finishes.
Wagner — participating in his third-straight state tournament — shot a 95 and finished in 13th place.
Barnes — playing in his second straight state tournament — finished in 17th place with a 103.
Yates Center’s other freshman, James Hess, finished in 27th place with a 117.
“James has done a great job,” Barnes said. “(He) started the season having never played.”
The Wildcats took fifth as a team with a 398, only 17 strokes from second place Chase County.
Tipton Catholic won the tournament with a 351 team score.
