Leland “Bon” Gumfory, 80, of Iola died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at his home.
He was born July 28, 1931, in Iola, to John M. and Lela B. (Banks) Gumfory. He grew up in Iola and served in the U.S. Army.
He worked for M&M Packing Company before owning and operating Zero Locker Plant. He later partnered with his brother Duane in the oil business operating as Double G Oil.
On Jan. 1, 1966, he married Darlene Whitworth Johnson, and they made their home in Iola. She preceded him in death on Sept. 1, 2009.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and especially fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Rick Johnson, Iola, and Jeff Johnson, Cave Springs, Ark.; two daughters, Rose Johnson, Iola, and Maxalene Gumfory, Iola; two brothers, John M. Jr., Austin, Texas, and LeRoy “Lee,” Iola; three sisters, Onella Valentine, Neosho Falls, Roberta Hutton, Iola, and Janet Mueller, Humboldt; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Johnson, brothers, Robert, Charles, J.M. “Bud” and Duane, and a sister, Juanita Maple.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Iola.
