Kirk “Pete” Kress, 48, of Iola died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at his home.
He was born Oct. 7, 1963, in Iola, to Charles and Betty Anne (Trowbridge) Kress. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Piqua and attended Yates Center Schools.
Kirk worked for the Iola Fire Department for 23 years attaining the rank of deputy chief before he left for a position with the State Fire Marshall’s office.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, NASCAR races and Kansas State University football.
On Sept. 24, 1985, he married Lisa Marvin and they had a son. They later divorced.
On Oct. 19, 1994, he married Sharon L. Smart who survives. He also leaves one son, Trey and his wife, Patience, Iola; a grandson, Tayven Kress; his father, Charles, rural Piqua; two brothers, Charles II and his wife, Jan, and John and his wife, Alzina, Iola; three sisters, Charyl Link, Kansas City, Diane Stines and her husband, Bob, Edgerton, and Lori Jay, Brasoria, Texas; his in-laws, Howard and Ruth Smart, Iola; a number of nieces and nephews; and his dog, Homer.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Anne Kress, in 2000, and by his grandparents, Albert and Clara Kress and George and Ruby Trowbridge.
Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola, followed by visitation.
Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Piqua. Burial will be in St. Martin’s Cemetery in Piqua.
