Albert John Kress, Jr., 75, Piqua, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at his home.
John was born June 19, 1939, on the family farm west of Piqua, son of Albert John and Clara Josephine (King) Kress Sr. He graduated from Yates Center High School and Emporia State University.
He served in the Kansas National Guard for eight years.
On Dec. 30, 1967, John married Patricia L. Leake. They made their home in Iola. He worked as an accountant for Snodgrass Wilson & Dunlap for 16 years. John was part owner of Piqua Grain Co. and helped operate it for 10 years before going to work as a computer programmer for HBD Thermoid in Chanute before retiring. He enjoyed woodworking and made numerous items.
John was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Wife Pat survives, as do four sons, Michael and wife Lanette, Goddard, Dennis, Piqua, Sean and wife Rhonda, Wichita, and Timothy and wife Lisa, Lawrence; a daughter, Nicole Kress and companion Gary Morris, Yates Center; a stepdaughter, Gayle White and husband Jeff, Goddard; a brother, Thomas C. Kress, Yates Center; two sisters, Rose Ann Breckenridge, Westminister, Colo., and Dorothea Jean Nichols, Casper, Wyo.; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles “Chuck” Kress and Robert “Bob” Kress, and a sister, Mary Lou Taylor
Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Tuesday, followed by funeral mass at 10:30 a.m., both at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Piqua. Burial will follow in St. Martin’s Cemetery, Piqua. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel, Iola.
