Alice Catherine Smith, 91, of Yates Center died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at Yates Center Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born March 31, 1920, to P.K. and Pearl (Cantrell) Laidlaw. She and her family lived in Yates Center until she graduated from Yates Center High School in 1938. After graduation she went to attend Baker University. After attending Baker University she worked at Tilly’s Dress Shop in Yates Center.
On Oct. 18, 1941, she married Lawrence Milton Smith. After her marriage she opened a Gift Shop in Lawrence’s GE Store in Coffeyville. They returned to Yates Center in 1977. He died July 12, 1988.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Yates Center, and  Chapter CH P.E.O. Sisterhood. She enjoyed her membership at Lake Side Golf Course.
She is survived by a son, Steve of the home; nephews, H.T. Laidlaw, Pheonix, Ariz., Tommy Laidlaw, LaFayette, Colo., Stan Laidlaw, Mesquite, Nev., and Jim Evans, Springfield Mo.; and nieces, Linda Lou Steiner and Mardell Pringle, both of Yates Center, Marilyn Clark, Fort Collins, Colo., and Jane Potter, Iola.
Funeral Services will be at Campbell Funeral Home on Thursday at 1 p.m. Internment will be in Yates Center Cemetery.
No formal visitation is planned.
