Bernice Irene Schlichting, 104, of Yates Center died Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Yates Center Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born July 18, 1907, in Berlin, to William Phillip and Carrie Bell (Stewart) Bowers. Bernice grew up in rural Bronson where she owned and operated her own Beauty Shop.
On Jan. 23, 1938, she married David “Claude” Schlichting in Fort Scott. The couple moved to Wichita but eventually returned to Yates Center where she owned and operated a local beauty shop.
She was an 82-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Golden Rod Chapter No. 163.
Bernice leaves four second cousins, Glenn E. Smith and his wife, Retta, Bronson, Nadine Walker, Fort Scott, Marilyn Brown and her husband, Raymond, San Lorenzo, Calif., and George Holt and his wife, Esther, Uniontown; and a stepgrandchild, Lyndell King, Maize. 
Bernice donated her body to the University of Kansas School of Medicine for research. No services are planned.
Arrangements were under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home of Yates Center.
