Bernice E. Heiman, 82, of Piqua died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Allen County Hospital in Iola.
She was born Oct. 20, 1927, on a farm two miles west of Piqua, the daughter of John A. and Edith M. (Trout) Scheibmeir. She attended elementary school in Piqua and went two years of high school in Yates Center and two years in Iola graduating from Iola High School in 1945.
On Dec. 26, 1946, she married Al Heiman. They made their home in Piqua. She worked 10 years for H.L. Miller & Son in Iola and 15 years for Piqua Co-op before her retirement. He died July 3, 1997.
She was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church and Altar Society in Piqua.
She is survived by a son, Rick, Piqua; six daughters, Connie Buller, Piqua, Alfy Rice, rural Iola, Penny McDonald, Wichita, Tammy Heiman, Iola, and Edye Martin and Trina Pennuto, Piqua; a brother, Don Scheibmeir, Piqua; two sisters, Emma Mae Frazier, DeQuincy, La., and Marieta West, Piqua; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A son, Donald R., four brothers, Gerald, Ed, Lloyd and Eugene Scheibmeir, and a sister, Pauline Diebolt, died earlier.
Parish Rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Piqua prior to a Mass of Christian burial at 11 o’clock at the church. The Rev. Thomas Scaletty will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery in Piqua.
