Carol Beth James, 93, Iola, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at Moran Manor in Moran.
Carol Beth was born Feb. 4, 1921, in Iola, the daughter of Charles and Artie Newman. She graduated from Iola Senior High School in 1939 and attended Iola Junior College. On April 6, 1943, Carol Beth married Howard James and they made their home in Iola. She worked as the librarian during war time at Iola Junior High and later worked at the Idea Shop. Howard preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1987. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, EHU After 5 and Iola Music Club. She was active in numerous community activities.
Survivors include a daughter, Beth Ann Turner and husband Max, and one granddaughter, Christina Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and her husband.
Visitation will be at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, same location. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Iola.
